– plays “run and catch me” game with traffic ranks
Last Thursday, a passenger of a route 42 minibus was apprehended at the Texaco Gas Station at Providence, East Bank Demerara, by ranks of the Providence Police Station following reports of an assault charge.
Deon Livan visited the police station to report that Keyon Harvey who was arrested afterwards, had “wounded” him and he took a traffic officer to Harvey’s location. Harvey was seated in a route 42 minibus which was being fueled at the Texaco Gas Station.
He was then told by the police rank of the charge against him and taken to the police station for further action.
Kaieteur News understands that Harvey was ordered to sit on the prisoner’s bench while the information was being documented and then asked to “stand up” to have a search conducted on his person.
It was reported that when Harvey heard that instruction, he “sprang up” from the bench and “sped out” of the Enquiries Division into the Traffic Office of the Providence Police Station. Immediately, officers were running behind him. He continued his “escape” by running into the station compound with two traffic officers in hot pursuit.
This newspaper was told that when Harvey realised that he could not escape, he “put his right hand into his crotch and pulled out a transparent plastic bag”.
The man threw the substance onto the concrete strip in the compound and when one officer picked up the bag and suspected it was cocaine, Harvey stated “Dah is nah me own”.
According to a source, it was approximately eight grams of cocaine that Harvey had in his possession.
He was re-arrested and subsequently charged.
