Stacy Sampson 28, of El Dorado Village, West Coast Berbice, appeared before (ag) Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ to answer a charge of pilfering $4,585 from the Guyana Defense Force.
Sampson, who was clad in blue jeans and multi-coloured jersey boldly told the Magistrate that she was guilty. She was unrepresented.
The police are alleging that on September 15, last, while Sampson was employed by the Guyana Defence Force as a clerk, she stole the money.
Sampson told the Magistrate, “I took the money because I needed it,” She also informed the court that she was willing to make restitution.
Police prosecutor Venetta Pindar did not object to bail, and Magistrate Beharry allowed her bail in the sum of $25,000. The Magistrate also instructed that she report to court on January 31, for sentencing, when a probation report is to be sought.
Also making his first court appearance before the same Magistrate was Kirth Barrat of the Soesdyke/ Linden Highway, who was charged with possession or narcotics.
He pleaded not guilty and he too was unrepresented.
It is alleged that on January 8, the police were carrying out a narcotics raid when a search was conducted in his house.
The ranks found 23 kilograms of marijuana in a bedroom.
Police prosecutor Stephen Telford objected to bail and requested that the matter be transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
The matter was made returnable for January 12.
