– still an inconvenience to residents
The main access bridge to the Good Hope Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, commonly called the “Kissoon Bridge” is finally accessible as repair works that were being administered to the faulty areas of the facility have now been completed.
Last year, many residents complained to Kaieteur News that they were unhappy, since their regular route could not have been accessed due to repair works, which were “stalled up” and “left off” for a long period of time.
This made it impossible for vehicles to cross over, therefore many drivers either had to drive all the way around the village and burn unnecessary fuel or reluctantly park their vehicles and walk across the dilapidated structure.
When Kaieteur News visited the area yesterday, it was evident that the bridge was finally completed but much to the dismay of residents in the area, they still had to use the previous alternative route, because the roadway and streets that lead to Kissoon Bridge were in a deplorable state.
Many pot-holes were visible and hardly any vehicles were using the newly finished bridge. One driver stated that he was told the bridge repairs cost $6M but could not understand why government could not spend some money to fill the pot-holes.
He said, “What use they build a bridge and spend so much money and you can’t even use the road or street it built around?”
