A 29-year-old mother of nine, of Ondeerneeming, Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast, remains a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital and is being carefully monitored by a local doctor.
The woman had to undergo a second surgical intervention at the Suddie Public Hospital to remove a pair of surgical scissors left inside her for 10 days.
This newspaper was reliably informed that on December 23 last, Alicia Benjamin, was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, crying out for severe abdominal pains.
According to her husband, the foreign doctor at Suddie was forced to perform an emergency operation on his wife due to the severity of her persistent abdominal pains. The man said when the doctors operated on Alicia; they found that her baby was lodged in her Fallopian tube.
After being admitted at Suddie for almost one week, the man disclosed that his wife was released into his care.
“Three days after she was released, my wife was crying out again for severe abdominal pains. She was also vomiting profusely so we had to rush her again to the Suddie Public Hospital”.
Back at the Suddie Public Hospital the woman underwent two ultra sound scans and the foreign doctor made a gruesome discovery.
Alicia Benjamin’s mother said that they were informed by hospital officials that a pair of surgical scissors was lodged inside her abdomen. Because of the complex situation, a Guyanese doctor from the city had to be summoned at the Suddie Hospital to perform the surgical intervention to remove the scissors.
“We did not have no Christmas, no New Year. Because of Alicia condition we were both scared for her and her nine children.”
“Look at us. We are all poor people and at present Alicia’s husband is not working. All of her children are in our care.”
The mother said that Alicia needs another three units of blood.
Kaieteur News understands that a Cuban doctor performed the first operation. No one is talking and officials appear to be giving the impression that they are doing everything in their power to have the matter remain outside the public domain.
