Rudolph London was yesterday refused bail by Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin after he appeared before her, charged with attempted murder committed on his reputed wife Shaundell Warwick.
The man who was clad in jeans and jersey made his way into the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court yard well chain up with heavy police shield.
London, who was not required to plead to the indictable charge, of attempted murder was unrepresented.
The police are alleging that on New Year’s Day, at Best Village, West Coast Demerara, London while armed with a cutlass unlawfully and maliciously wounded Shaundell Warwick with the intent to murder her.
According to police prosecutor, Krishnadat Ramana, Warwick remains warded in an unconscious state in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) as a result of the injuries she sustained at the hands of the accused.
During yesterday’s hearing, Magistrate Williams-Hatmin questioned the prosecutor about the extent of the victim’s injuries only to have London blurt out, “I didn’t chop her. Is broadside I broad side her, my worship.”
London’s mother also explained to the Magistrate that London is suffering from a metal health breakdown and requested that he be scrutinized by a specialist.
At that point the prosecutor objected to bail and requested that the accused be remanded on the ground of the victim’s severe medical condition. His request was granted and Magistrate Hatmin made the matter returnable on February 28. On Wednesday, Rudolph London surrendered to police after being on the run for several days. A female relative of the accused told this news paper that she persuaded the man to surrender after she saw him on the West Ruimveldt Front Road around 13:00 hrs on Wednesday.
“Me and he had (an) exchange of words and I tell him that his picture in the papers and he don’t have nowhere to hide and that is best that he turn himself in,” said the woman who requested to remained anonymous.
The cousin added that she accompanied London to the Ruimveldt Police Station where he surrendered. His relative mentioned that London expressed remorse for injuring Warwick.
