As campaigning for the January 30 Guyana Cricket Board Elections heat up, International Cricket commentator and Eastern Caribbean Sports Consultant Guyanese born Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira is throwing his support behind Ramsay Ali for the top position in Guyana’s cricket.
The 48-year-old Ali, the present Marketing Manager of the GCB, is contesting for the GCB Presidency with GCB Vice-President Bissoon Singh while former GCB Secretary Bish Pandy says he will also be available for the position once the country boards wants him as the GCB boss.
Perreira, Guyana’s most celebrated Radio Sports commentator now resides in St Lucia and feels that Ali, the CEO of Sterling Products Limited, is the best candidate for the position and is capable of bring all of the stakeholders together in the best interest of Guyana’s cricket.
“I first meet Ali 30 years ago when as a teenager he played a great supporting role to the late Denis Patterson during Guyana’s hosting of the Regional Table Tennis Championships.
His strong private sector experience and Marketing skills should make him an ideal candidate for the position,” the 70-year-old Perreira opined.
A former Chairman of the National Sports Council in Guyana, Pereira said he has always been impressed with Ali’s calm temperament and his democratic, yet firm decision-making style.
Perreira, a former Director of the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), pointed out that Ali is no stranger to the Guyana Cricket Board of which he is an executive member and promised that if Ali becomes the GCB head he (Perreira) would be willing to use his ‘contacts’ to bring English school and club cricket teams to Guyana which will strengthen Guyana’s development of its sporting tourism market.
