Noitgedacht/Ridge defeated Maria’s Pleasure by 17 runs in a twenty/20 cricket match sponsored by the Chowtie brothers played on Boxing Day at the Maria’s Pleasure cricket ground in Wakenaam.
Noitgedacht/Ridge batted first and scored a respectable 189 all out in 19.5 overs. Former Essequibo U-19 player Dinanauth Doodnauth top scored with 50 (5×4,1×6) and got support from Bert Ferguson 42, Deochan Chowtie 37 and Kapildeo Chanderban 24.
Left arm spinner Marsh Singh was the pick of the bowlers for Maria’s Pleasure with 4-49 while medium pacer Looknauth Persaud claimed 3-32.
The home team in reply scored 172 all out in 17 overs. Singh returned to hit 32 (2×4, 1×6) while Kennard Lewis supported with 30 (2×4) and Ryan Gordon made 24 (2×6).
Kapildeo Chanderban picked up 4-22, Chowtie 2-16 and Doodnauth 2-16 for the winners. Noitgedacht/Ridge received the winning trophy and Maria’s Pleasure collected the runner up prize while Doodnauth was given the man-of-the-match award.
The game, which was played in front of a large crowd, was sponsored by Deochan and Deonauth Chowtie who both reside overseas.
Deochan a former Essequibo allrounder said they are pleased to be associated with cricket on the island once again and will continue to assist in its development.
