Essequibo left arm spinner Imran Khan took the cricketer of the year award when the Good Success Sports Club of Wakenaam held its annual awards ceremony on December 30th at Mustak Mohamed residence.
Khan, who was given the Anand Sanasie trophy, scored 210 runs and picked up 22 wickets in local club cricket in 2010, also received the most disciplined player and bowler of the year prizes which were sponsored by Feroze Amin and Mohamed Azam respectively.
Chandreka Ragnauth who scored 225 runs for his club grabbed the batsman of the year trophy which was donated by Lakeram Cobeer. Offspinner Nazeer Mohamed who missed the recent Guyana Cricket Board senior 4-day, 4 team tournament because of the National Schools Athletics sports where he was the manager of district 16 team, captured the award for the allrounder of the year which was sponsored by Tularam Ramkissoon. He scored 143 runs and took 16 wickets for his club.
Wazir Khan with 10 wickets and 106 runs carted off the most improved cricketer of the year title which was sponsored by Tom Singh.
Secretary of the club Jaidat Persaud gave an overview of the club’s achievement in 2010 and expectation for 2011. He said the club has proven to be one of the leading clubs on Wakenaam and will look to better their performance in 2011. Good Success won the Igloo Ice Cream 40 over competition and have qualified for the semifinals of the Salim’s Speed Boat Service tournament which will be played in 2011. Chairman of the Wakenaam Cricket Committee Sheik Ahmad challenged the club to field a female team in 2010 and congratulated them for a job well done.
Chairman of the club Mustak Mohamed congratulated the players on their performance in 2010 and urged the players to train harder and the youngsters to take the game seriously and focus on their education. He made special mention of the senior members of the club and the females in the village for their support.
The club would like to also thank the following person, Anand Sanasie, Feroze Amin, Mohamed Azam, Fidel Birbal, Thomas, Sheik Ahmad, Tom Singh, James Ramnarine, Lakeram Brijmohan, Afraz Abjal and Salim Hassan for their contributions.
