…as car slams into utility pole near Canje Bridge
A 23-year-old man was killed on the spot and four others injured at around 21:00 hrs last night after the car in which they were travelling in slammed into a utility pole near the New Amsterdam section of the Canje Bridge.
The dead man, who was reportedly a passenger, was identified as Julian Mohabir, of Sheet Anchor, East Canje, Berbice.
According to reports, the driver of the car had just crossed the Canje Bridge while heading for New Amsterdam, when he attempted to overtake other vehicles.
He reportedly struck a car before slamming headlong into a utility pole, splitting it in two.
Mohabir was killed instantly.
Though details were sketchy, Kaieteur News understands that four other passengers were badly injured and were rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
