Dear Editor,
Two pages in your edition of Saturday January 1, 2011, paint a graphic picture of the state of hopelessness of Guyana’s cricket and maybe its terminal decline.
On page 62 there is a report that the Sanasie faction of the Demerara Cricket Board had obtained an injunction preventing the Bissoon-Dyal Singh faction of the DCB from holding the AGM of the said board on January 2, 2011. This injunction followed a writ filed by the Bissoon-Dyal Singh faction deeming Mr. Sanasie and several others no longer executives of the DCB for missing several executive meetings of the said DCB.
I understand very few, if any, executive meetings of the DCB were held last year.
On page 40 there is a picture of the DCB facility in Woolford Avenue. The facility which was almost 90 per cent complete about two or three years ago is virtually abandoned and now the home of sheep, goats, cattle and wasps.
These two individuals and their supporters have done nothing for Demerara cricket over the past two years but are going after the big prize—Guyana’s cricket.
Mr. Singh who is challenging for the Presidency of the Guyana Cricket Board is Vice President of the Guyana Board. Mr. Sanasie who is campaigning heavily for Ramsey Ali for presidency of the Guyana Cricket Board and will remain secretary of the Guyana board if Ali wins has done very little as Vice President of DCB for the improvement of cricket in Demerara.
Mr. Sanasie’s faction has called its own AGM of the Demerara Board for later this month at Wales.
So Mr. Editor, we have two persons and their factions who cannot even put to use a facility for the betterment of the cricket in Demerara but who are fighting tooth and nail to run Guyana’s cricket.
It is not about Demerara Cricket but about the nine
votes to take to the Guyana Board AGM on the 30th of January .This is what the fight and the court case is all about.
The last two years of cricket administration in Guyana have probably been its worse in history but if either of these two factions is to prevail, either the Ramsey Ali led Sanasie faction or Bissoon-Dyal Singh faction much worse is to come.
I hope the sponsors of Guyana and Demerara Cricket are paying keen attention as they have a corporate responsibility to use shareholders funds wisely and prudently.
