Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry yesterday granted bail to Sean Persaud who was charged with the offence of robbery.
It is alleged that on December 30, last, along King Street, Georgetown, Persaud and another male robbed Kelvin Le Fleur of $65,000 and a wallet valued at $350. Persaud, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty.
According to police prosecutor, Stephen Telford, on December 30, Le Fleur was walking along King Street, when the accused and his acquaintance came up behind him and inquired if he was doing ‘business.’
Le Fleur allegedly responded in the negative and before he knew what was transpiring, Persaud held on to him and pushed his hands into his pants pocket. The duo then carted off his money and wallet.
An alarm was raised but unfortunately only Persaud was apprehend by investigating lawmen.
At that point, Persaud interjected and told the Magistrate that he is a sex worker and on the day in question Le Fleur approached him and requested that he, Le Fleur, carry out oral and anal sex on his youngest brother who was in his company at the time.
During yesterday’s hearing of the case, the court orderly was forced to demand silence after the entire gathering erupted into laughter, after the defendant recounted his version of the incident.
The Magistrate, after listening to Persaud’s explanation allowed him bail in the sum of $65,000 and ordered the men to return to court on January 20.
