Dear Editor,
I have read an epistle from one Anand Budram on December 29, captioned “The PPP best shot to return to office lies with Nagamootoo….” I humbly disagree with this PPP die hard called Budram. Firstly, what does a Nagamootoo bring to the table that a Ramkarran does not?
These are my reasons for supporting a Ramkarran over a Nagamotoo:
1. Ramkarran stewardship of the Parliament has been par excellence. The Parliament is one of the few institutions that actually functions in Guyana. Even the opposition respects his management of that ship. Ramkarran actually manages and leads an institution. Moses on the other hand has a short track record of managing anything and thus we could be saddling ourselves with Jagdeo Two in the form of Nagamootoo, as he learns on the job;
2. Yes Moses is a good orator but so was Burnham and what did he do for us? Ramkarran is a details man and he is the kind of person a nation can depend on.
3. Ramkarran has a reputation as being a good listener, a cool cat. Some one the people can approach with their problems. Nagamootoo comes across as vindictive, just like Jagdeo, whose sole mission is to get back at his enemies in the PPP. Guyana does not have the time for him to settle his personal grudges, while we sink further. He will literally “bruck up” the PPP if he is elected and conclude the destruction of Guyana that Jagdeo started. Ramkarran will reform the party and the Government.
4. All power players are prepared to give Ramkarran a chance to repair the damage that Jagdeo made. Many, including old supporters, have all moved away from Nagamootoo for his irresponsible behaviour. Did Nokta not support Moses in 1997 for the Presidency? Yes. Ask Nokta today if he will support Moses and the answer is a clear No. Ask even the middle of the roaders like Frank Anthony if they will support Moses and the answer is a resounding No.
5. If Moses so desperately wants to be President, the door is there for him to form his own political party, but he will never be the presidential candidate of the PPP since he has too much baggage on his shoulders.
6. One leads a political party and a team based on the principle of thrust. The PPP can trust Ramkarran to assess the Jagdeo mess and clean it up, but with Moses he is a populist who is focused only on himself. Did we as a nation not have enough of selfish politicians to last a life time, why burden ourselves with another one in the form of Moses Nagamootoo. Why continue this trend of destruction? Moses is no better than Jagdeo in attitude, presidential experience, strategy and most importantly leadership skills. Ramkarran on the other hand is miles ahead of the pack and is the only hope to save the PPP.
For Anand Budram information, the flit, mess and dirt has taken up most of the PPP and the only ray of hope for a return to a lean, clean and people centric PPP is Mr. Ralph Ramkarran. Let us not even talk about the GuySuCo man.
