Private K. Belfield was sentenced to 90 days in confinement after a court martial in a military facility by the Guyana Defence Force.
Pte Belfield of Infantry Battalion, Base Camp Stephenson, was charged with losing service property on the Del Conte Trail, Essequibo, between October 18 and October 19, last.
The service property in this case was one AK-47 rifle that was entrusted to his care. He pleaded guilty.
He was on an assignment with his infantry when he was left alone in the trail. He reportedly panicked and left the rifle, a crime that led to his court martial.
The weapon was eventually retrieved.
The team considered that the private had a rough initiation to the jungle.
President of the court martial was Major Thomas and the other members were Captain Carter and Captain Chichester. Justice Oslen Small was the Judge Advocate.
