Two members of the Trophy Stall Angels female softball cricket team were yesterday honoured by their teammates for gaining selection on the West Indies female cricket team which tour India next month for an ODI and T20 series.
Demerara’s June Ogle-Thomas represents the Trophy Stall girl’s team in local softball competitions while Tremaine Smartt of Berbice is also set to play for the City softball side next year in the GT&T and Stag Beer competitions.
Both girls will join fellow Guyanese Sabrina Munroe and Shamaine Campbell on the West Indies team with Ogle-Thomas- a stylish opening batter and Wicketkeeper- set to make her International debut.
The Trophy Stall softball team recently held a farewell ceremony for their team mates and Skipper Renetta Awad presented cash awards to the two young ladies. Smartt, who resides in New Amsterdam, was unable to attend the ceremony but was contacted by telephone as members of the team bid her farewell and wished her success in India.
Ogle-Thomas was presented with a silver/gold engraved cricket band compliments of the team while a set of cricket gear and spending money was donated by Trophy Stall Boss Ramesh Sunich who is one of the leading local businessmen in Guyana when it comes to supporting sports and sportspersons.
