As part of its activities during this festive season, the Guyana Police Force presented hampers to the relatives of ranks who were killed in the line of duty.
The annual activity of the Force is in recognition of the contributions made by the slain ranks and is aimed at assisting to bring Christmas cheer to their families.
Leading the distribution of the hampers was Commissioner of Police Henry Greene who on Christmas Day delivered hampers to the relatives of the late Constables 15751 Rawle Thomas and 19156 Omari Savory.
The hampers were received by Miss Robyn Thomas, daughter of the late Constable Thomas, and Ms. Pamela Savory, mother of the late Constable Savory.
Constable Thomas was shot and killed by criminals on June 16, 2002 at Wismar, Linden, while Constable Savory was shot dead, also by criminals, on August 18, 2004 at Buxton, East Coast Demerara.
Police Divisional Commanders also personally delivered hampers to other relatives of slain ranks residing in their respective Divisions.
During this period, staff members of the Central Immigration and Passport Office were also involved in an ‘Outreach Programme’ when on Thursday December 23, they distributed hampers and gifts to members of the public who were at the office to apply for or uplift passports.
Food hampers were given to three lucky applicants and gifts were presented to three other persons uplifting their passports on that day.
A surprise gift was also presented to the first child applying for a new passport.
After the presentations, the public was entertained by the Immigration choir which sang Christmas carols during the serving of light refreshments.
Significantly, centenarian Ms. Margaret Hamilton, the oldest applicant since the introduction of the machine readable passport system, was also presented with a food hamper by ranks of the Department who visited her at her D’Urban Street home.
Ms. Hamilton celebrated her 101st birth anniversary on November 24, last.
