National U-15s finished 3rd, U-19s disappoint
Lack of sponsors affected local 2010 cricket

The Guyana under-15 team finished 3rd in the Regional under-15 tournament which was played in St Vincent over the Easter period in March but their under-19 counterparts, who once dominated Regional under-19 three-day cricket winning an unprecedented six consecutive titles from 1992, wasted a first round 8-wicket win against the Leeward Islands and finished 2nd to last on 19 points.
The National Under-15 team which finished third in Regional action during the year.
Guyana finished only above the Leewards in the Regional under-19 Three-Day tournament which was won by the Windwards in St Lucia in July.
The South American teenagers were then knocked out of the One-Day version of the competition before the semi-final stage.
Malteenoes left-hander Kwame Crosse (Ave 65) topped the overall batting averages making 195 runs from 4 matches with 2 fifties before prematurely leaving the competition damaged his finger. Essequibian Ricardo Adams who scored 123 runs from 3 matches (Ave.24.20) was Guyana’s next best batsman in the averages.
Former West Indies U-15 leg-spinner Amir Khan had the most wickets in the tournament with 27 scalps including 8-70 in 3 five-wicket hauls but pacer First-Class pacer Keon Joseph (7) and left-arm seamer Andre Stoll (5) were Guyana’s next best wicket takers.
Guyana beat Leewards by 8 wickets, drew with Jamaica, lost to Windwards by 7 wickets, drew with Barbados and lost to T&T by 133 runs.
Meanwhile, the Guyanese failed to advance to the semi-finals of the WICB U-19 one-day tournament (July 29 to August 4) and were knocked out early in the tournament. No Regional under-19 Female tournament was held this year on the local front
No national 50 or 40 overs club competition was played in 2010 while no female under-19 Inter-County tournament was played this year due to a lack of sponsorship while the senior 4-day Inter-County competition also had no sponsor.
The year began with the completion of the 2009 National Female 40-overs competition which was won by Rose Hall Town who beat East Coast Demerara in the final at Albion.
The 2009 National Female 30-over under-19 schools tournament was also completed in January and with teams from Berbice and Essequibo participating for the first time, South Ruimveldt Secondary beat Corentyne Comprehensive in the final at DCC.
The Castrol Under-15 Inter-County from March 9-16 was won by Berbice while Demerara emerged victorious in the GTM 3-day U-19 Inter County tournament which was played from April 7-17.
Berbice won the GTM one-day U-19 Inter-County competition, contested between April 19 & 25. Berbice beat both Essequibo and Demerara to win the Female 50-overs Inter-County tournament.
In the El Dorado One-Day Inter-County competition from Oct 3-9, Demerara, without Sarwan, Chanderpaul and Travis Dowlin, were beaten by Berbice in the final at the Stadium.
In the GCB four-day in November, Demerara, led by centuries from Leon Johnson and Travis Dowlin, beat Essequibo inside two days in their opening match in Essequibo before the 2nd round was washed out and the competition called off due to consistent rain giving Demerara the title after Berbice had won for the previous 5 years.
Shemroy Barrington scored 153 for the Rest team against Berbice in their drawn first round game at Blairmont after Royston Crandon hit 117 and Sewnarine Chattergoon (87), Anthony Bramble (52) and Richard Ramdeen (50) scored fifties for the host.
Permaul had 5-56 for Berbice as Waslim Haslim hit two half-centuries in the match and Delbert Hicks followed up his first innings 40 with 55 for the Rest Team.
Essequibo once again failed to win any of their matches in the Pepsi/Carib T20 Inter-County Cricket tournament in December. They finished last after they were beaten by Demerara on the final day at the Stadium.
Berbice retained their title by beating the Rest team in the final. The Rest team, like Berbice played unbeaten in the competition after they beat both Demerara and Essequibo on the road to the final. The Berbice/ Rest team preliminary round game was washed out without a ball being bowled.
The Digicel Summer Slash National T20 tournament was won by Corentyne Free Weekend who beat Georgetown Flex text in the Final in July while the 2010 National schools competition is still at the inter school stage in most areas. Rain in December interrupted the action and the inter-branch and inter district stages will be contested in 2011.
