Dear Editor,
Time and circumstances have a way of letting us know what the real reasons are for peoples’ actions and behaviour. At the launching of the WiMax 4G Network in Guyana by Managing Director of E-Networks Inc , Mr.Vishok Persaud, son of Reepu Daman Persaud, President Bharat Jagdeo made reference to the fact that sections of the media attempt to point fingers at his Government when it gives business to individuals close to the administration.
The President made the point that the press does not report on persons such as the husband of AFC Prime Ministerial Candidate, Ms. Sheila Holder, who is a Director of one of the four companies, which has been granted the concession or permission to be a part of the modernisation of the telecommunication sector, in particular the information super highway.
Is it then so far-fetched to posit that it is in the interest of the Holders to stand apart from the rest of the opposition, which is challenging the PPP/C Government?
Can it be rationalised, that in order for Mr. Holder’s company to benefit from any new business being created or facilitated by the Government, Ms. Holder was asked or forced to play ball?
Mr. Freddie Kissoon alluded to the erratic voting pattern of Ms. Holder in Parliament, supporting the PPP/C Administration, when her support was not required to allow passage of some decisions, but lent immense credibility to the Government benches with her yes vote, setting her apart from the ‘rest’ of the opposition. Is it then possible that Ms. Holder’s behaviour in the Assembly and in Parliament Select Committees has absolutely nothing to do with her husband’s business?
With this background one can then locate the logic of the uncompromising stance adopted by the Sheila-Ramjattan Axis to nix any attempt to forge a combined opposition front to face the PPP/C, even with a clear resolution presented and passed by the members of the AFC to pursue the course of action of alliance building with all willing entities and political parties. The stance of the Axis only bolsters the PPP administration.
