The previously postponed Rising Sun Turf Club fund raising horserace Meet in collaboration with the Lions Cub of Durban Park and the Central Demerara Lions has now been slated for Sunday January 2 next year at the Rising Sun Turf Club at Arima Park on the West Coast of Berbice. This race meet will effectively end the 2010/1011 horserace season.
The Rising Sun Turf Club under the stewardship of Inshanally and Fazal Habibulla, which is known for its benevolence over the years, has been one of the leading entities in this regard in the country and has they continuously assist other charity organizations with their fund raising ventures and this occasion is no different as they team up with the two Lions clubs to help raise funs for the needy.
Nine races are listed on the day’s card with competitors set to vie for close to $3.5M, which will be available in cash and trophies.
A full slate of sponsors have come on board for the annual fund raising meet with Banks DIH Limited sponsoring the Main C class event with sponsorship of over $800,000 where the winner will run away with $400,000 and the Banks DIH trophy.
Among the other sponsors on board are Sterling Products, Good Wood Racing Service, COPS Security Service, R and W Super Centre, Hand In Hand, Bank Of Nova Scotia New Amsterdam Branch, Swansea, Trophy Stall Bourda Market, Toucan Industries, Chester Fry Bush of Lot West Coast Berbice, Orin Belle Speed Boat Service, Hablaw’s Meat Centre, Businessmen Colin Elcock of Elcock stables and Business Enterprise, Mohammed Sherriff, Rising Sun Cattle Ranch, Roland De Souza, Ricky Ramnarine and Lloyd Garraway.
There are a number of top notch events carded for the days programme with the three feature events being for the C and lower, the 3 yr old classic for horses Born and Bred in the West Indies and Guyana and the 2 yr old event. There are also two other top notch races for horses Two year old Guyana Bred horses while the event for E and the one for the G class horses are also crowd pullers.
The C class event which has a first prize of $400,000 will see the horses galloping over a distance of 1400M.
Spectators will once again see the top three year olds in the country in action as they battle for the top prize of $250,000 over 1100M.
The incentive for the winner in the Two Year old Guyana and West Indies bred race is worth $200,000. This race will be run over a distance of 1100M.
The specially arranged Guyana Bred and born two year race has a winner’s take of $150,000 and is another 1100M event.
The E Class race which will also be run over 1100M, will see the winner taking away the $160,000 first prize.
There is the G class event with a $140,000 first prize available for with the horses down to gallop over 1400 Meters.
The H class event has a winning tag of $130,000 and is over 1400M. The organisers have indicated that over six horses must enter or the event will not be run.
The I class winning money is worth $120,000 and the distance is also 1400M.
The event in the I3 category is the final race on the day and victory in this event will see the champion taking home $120,000 in the 1100M sprint.
With so much on offer a scintillating and action packed day of racing is anticipated.
Businessman Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall in Bourda Market will once again be sponsoring the champion jockey and champion trainer trophies. Race time is 13.00 hrs and according to the organisers the track will be in good condition.
