Dear Editor,
The arrest and detention of Freddie Kissoon and Mark Benschop for a simple traffic violation has nothing to do with breaching the Traffic Laws. This is simply a political arrest and political victimisation by the regime to punish the two individuals.
If they had committed a traffic violation, why didn’t the police charge them immediately and bring them in front of the magistrate instead of placing them in the Brickdam lockups for a few days?
One senior policeman was transferred to Berbice because he failed to arrest Mark Benschop at his home.
Guyana it appears is a country of cowards and when a few people dare to speak and protest against the Government, the Government would use the police, the judiciary and its various arms to victimize those few who dare speak against them.
Change for betterment can only come to the people if they come out in the open and speak for their rights.
The Commissioner of Police has long reached his retirement age and yet the Government has kept him in that position, why?
Many complaints have been lodged against many senior government functionaries and yet no investigations are done.
It is a well known fact that certain people, who oppose this Government and Bharrat Jagdeo, are feeling the wrath of the Government and ruling politicians with trump up charges, letters from the GRA, and pressure from other government departments.
This writer has passed through this victimization and when I questioned a senior police officer about it, he said it was orders from “higher up”. The same reasoning can apply to Freddie Kissoon and Mark Benschop’s situation, “orders from higher up”. Higher up means, the political directorate.
Why should the Champion of the Earth allow a dumpsite in the capital of his country?
Why should Nelson Mandela’s name be associated with this dumpsite?
The dumpsite should be renamed “Jagdeo’s Dumpsite” or “Champion of the Earth Dumpsite” or “Marriott Dumpsite”.
Finally, there is a new Immigration Form called Annexe 1 Schedule 1 that came into effect from November 1, 2010 for those applying for visas to Canada targeting people in the police, military, judiciary, political parties and government employees.
Some serious questions are on this form and I would advise Freddie Kissoon, Mark Benschop and their lawyers to take a look at this form as some officials can be banned from entering Canada for human rights violation. The information on this form is similar to the new forms for the USA and UK.
