– Army Major, wife and ex-soldier remanded to prison for treason
Magistrate Priya Beharry remanded to prison, serving Guyana Defence Force Major, Bruce Munroe, his wife Carol-Ann Munroe, who is the owner of Young Achievers Academy and former soldier Leonard Wharton on charges for the capital offense of treason.
The trio, who were heavily shackled, was brought to court this morning to have the charge read to them.
It was alleged that the three between September 1, 2009 and September 15, 2010 intended to levy war against the President and Government of Guyana, further to depose the President.
The three were represented by Attorneys at law Gregory Gaskin, Nigel Hughes, George Thomas and Trenton Lake.
They were all not required to plead to the charge. They are expected to make their second court appearance on January 7.
The trio was charged yesterday.
They were held at Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters, Eve Leary since Monday.
The police in a press release last evening stated that four persons were arrested following investigations into the matter.
