Today is the eve of Christmas and already Turfites are gearing up for the excitement in store when the grand Boxing Day horse race meet organized by the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) gets underway at the Club’s Bush Lot Farm facility, Corentyne Berbice.
Already several corporate entities have acquiesced to lucrative sponsorship packages and the organizers have promised a day filled with fun and excitement. One of the races that has caught the attention of horseracing enthusiasts is the B and Lower Class event that nets the winner a whooping one million dollars, a beautiful trophy plus bragging rights.
Already, thirteen top class horses have signed up to participate in this race and the betting boys are casting their wagers. Among the animals that will be vying for the top prize are Miss Orientate, Chandress, Marathon Man, Jumbo Joy, Annie’s Playmate, Home Bush Baby, Tropical Passion, Prince Charming, The Message, Delmur Gold, Whad-a-Luck, Sir Balagie and Sweet Revenge.
Another race that will add to the day’s excitement is the F and Lower Class race over 6 furlongs sponsored by Neil and Massy. The winner takes home a handy sum of $250,000 and the second place, one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars. The third and fourth places receive $63,000 and $32, 000, respectively.
Recently also, Brand Manager of the DDL, Jeranzer Marques handed a sponsorship package to Mr. Kennard to facilitate the successful staging of the 3 years open race over a distance of 9 furlongs. The winner of this event carts off a whooping $400,000 with the second place finisher winning half that amount. The third and fourth prizes are $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
Other races that will add to the day’s excitement are the F and Lower Class race over 6 furlongs sponsored by Neal and Massy. The winner takes home $250,000 and the second place, one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars. The third and fourth places receive $63,000 and $32, 000, respectively.
Then there is the I3 Maiden and J and Lower class event over 6 furlongs sponsored by Mohammed’s Enterprise of Lombard Street, Georgetown, the K and L Division over 6 furlongs sponsored by P&P Insurance and the G and Lower Class over 7 furlongs also sponsored by Neal and Massy.
Activities culminate with the ‘I and Lower Class’ event over 7 furlongs sponsored by Cummings Electrical. In this race the winner carts off $150,000 while second place receives $75,000. The third and fourth places win $38,000 and $19,000 respectively. Several other exciting races are expected to form a part of the activities for the day.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kennard has assured that the event would be action packed and he is urging fans to be a part of the action.
Horse owners are also reminded that all activities would be conducted under the aegis of the Guyana Horse Racing Authorities and there would be strict adherence to the rules. The owners of horses are required to pay $3,000 per horse at the time of registration. They are also advised to take their animals to be examined by the vet not later than 11:00hrs on race day.
