‘Bling’, two others plead guilty to drug possession

Three men who were nabbed recently on different occasions with drugs and charged, were each fined $10,000 with an alternative of six months imprisonment. In addition, they will have to do six months’ community service.
The penalty was imposed on the men by magistrate Tajenarine Ramroop at the Albion Court yesterday.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, on Tuesday, last, the police were on patrol in the Patrick Dam, Angoy’s Avenue area when they noticed three men sitting together at a shop. On approaching the trio they observed 31-year-old Aubrey Layne, called ‘Bling’, of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, throwing away a lighted ‘spliff’ (a cannabis or marijuana cigarette). The item was retrieved and was subsequently weighed and amounted to ½ gram. He was arrested and charged.
Meanwhile, the Number Seven village, East Coast Berbice house of Dairam Barran, called “Fun man” was raided by a party of policemen on December 19, last, and during the process 1½ grammes of leaves, seeds and stems of the marijuana plant was found in the defendant’s refrigerator.
And in the other matter, Quacy Welcome, 30, of High Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, was busted on Tuesday, last, when Police went to his house and conducted a raid, during which time they smelled burning marijuana. They eventually found ½ gram of the prohibited plant wrapped in ‘fronto’ (tobacco leaf), on top of a table in the hall.
