On Tuesday, last, Mark Lim of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara visited a bank to change a cheque. He then took his wife to the New Thriving Restaurant located on Main Street, Georgetown to purchase a meal.
Lim told this newspaper that he parked his motor-car in front of the fast food outlet and secured $498,000 in a pouch which he slipped under a seat in his vehicle, to “keep it safely hidden”.
He then locked his vehicle and ventured into the restaurant with his wife.
When the couple returned to the car they found that it had been broken into.
Lim stated that he is a logger and the pouch which was stolen contained his money, his license for concession, national identification card, driver’s license and other logging documents.
He added that this is the second time that he was robbed of a large sum of money and lost other important documents that were contained in his car on this occasion.
Meanwhile, the police have issued an alert against confidence tricksters.
They said that in recent weeks there have been reports of people tendering bogus manager’s cheques and cheques stolen from individuals and companies.
Some of these bogus documents have already made their way into stores and wholesale outlets, the police said.
