Young Warriors of Cumberland, East Canje registered a comfortable 8-wicket over Hopetown United to assure themselves a place in the final of the New Building Society Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition in Berbice.
In the semifinal which was played at the Cumberland Ground, Young Warriors won the toss and asked Hopetown United to take first strike. They were soon 15 for 2 with medium pacer Amir Rahaman striking twice. Kawal Mangal and Rahaman struck again as the visitors slipped to 32 for 4 before being bowled out for 94 in 31.4 overs as only two batsmen reached double figures.
Rahaman took 3 for 16, former Guyana first- class player Hubern Evans 3 for 14 and former Berbice left-arm spinner Anil Beharry 2 for 13.
Young Warriors were given a rollicking start by 13 year-old Berbice Under-15 batsman Shimron Hetmyer who took 23 balls to blast a pugnacious 40 runs decorated with 8 fours and a six. He added 42 for the first wicket with Khemraj Harris who soon departed for 10. Former Berbice Under-19 wicketkeeper Ishwar Singh finished unbeaten on 25 while Linden Austin made 14 not out as Young Warriors reached 97-2. Steffon Adams took 2 for 36 in a losing effort.
Young Warriors will now clash with Tamarind Root in the final which is tentatively scheduled for Sunday at the Cumberland Ground in Canje.
