Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry yesterday remanded David Bernard and Junior Dover for an alleged robbery under arms committed on patrons of the White Castle Fish Shop on December 17.
Both of the accused pleaded not guilty. They were unrepresented. It is alleged that on December 17, last, at White Castle Fish Shop, Hadfield Street, Georgetown, the two men while armed with a black gun, robbed Shaka McQueed of one gold chain and one gold band.
It is also alleged that on the same day at White Castle Fish Shop, the two accused relieved Cleveland Ford of one gold band worth $90,000 and one silver ring.
Police prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that on the day in question Bernard and Dover barged into the said business establishment and held patrons at gunpoint while demanding that they “hand over every thing or die”. As a result McQueed and Ford became terrified and complied.
After the commotion the two accused hurriedly escaped on foot. The matter was reported to the police who responded promptly.
Acting on information from the plaintiffs, the officers were able to capture Dover and Bernard on John and Bent Streets, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, but the jewelry were not recovered.
David Bernard challenged the prosecutor’s case and asked, “ Is it possible for me to carry out a robbery at a place where police and soldiers with guns frequent and not get caught?”
Telford objected to bail and requested for them to be remanded. They are to return to court on December 29.
