Less than one week after receiving a handsome sponsorship package from Metro Office and Computer Supplies to offset the expenses for a grand Boxing Day horserace meet, organizer of the event, Justice Cecil Kennard received yet another package, this time from the Demerara Distillers Ltd.
Yesterday afternoon, Brand Manager of the DDL, Jeranzer Marques handed over the gift to Mr. Kennard in the presence of members of his staff and media operatives. He conveyed best wishes to Mr. Kennard while reiterating the corporate disposition of his firm. Indeed, DDL has always rendered support towards horse racing and other activities and this fact was echoed by Mr. Kennard who reaffirmed his commitment to quality races. Mr. Kennard was also grateful for the assistance and told Mr. Marques just so. He further urged the public to continue supporting DDL’s products so that that company could continue supporting sports programmes.
According to Mr. Kennard, the gift would be used for the prizes for the 3 years open race over a distance of 9 furlongs. The winner of this event carts off a whooping $400, 000 with the second place finisher winning half that amount. The third and fourth place prizes are $100, 000 and $50, 000 respectively.
Other races that will add to the day’s excitement are the F and Lower Class race over 6 furlongs sponsored by Neil and Massy. The winner takes home a handy sum of $250,000 and the second place, one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars. The third and fourth places receive $63,000 and $32, 000, respectively.
Then there is the 13 Maiden and J and Lower class event over 6 furlongs sponsored by Mohammed’s Enterprise of Lombard Street, Georgetown, the K and L Division over 6 furlongs sponsored by P&P Insurance and the G and Lower Class over 7 furlongs also sponsored by Neil and Massy.
Activities culminate with the ‘I and Lower Class’ event over 7 furlongs sponsored by Cummings Electrical. In this race the winner carts off$150,000 while second place receives $75,000. The third and fourth place finishers win $38,000 and $19,000 respectively. Several other exciting races are expected to form a part of the activities for the day.
Meanwhile Mr. Kennard has assured turfites that several classy animals will be gracing the tracks including Got to go, Gabriel Gold, Peaceful, Celebration Time and Sabrina Princess.
Several other sponsors are on board and include Republic Bank which sponsors the race between the 2 years old; Pomeroon Oil Mills and Pharmagen Enterprise, Republic Bank; Neil and Massy; Muneshwar’s Ltd; Mohammed’s Enterprise; Cummings Electrical and Torginol Paints.
Meanwhile, horse owners are reminded that all activities would be conducted under the aegis of the Guyana Horse Racing Authorities and there would be strict adherence to the rules. The owners of horses are required to pay $3000 per horse at the time of registration. They are also advised to take their animals to be examined by the vet not later than 11:00hrs on race day.
