A 39-year-old man has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was severely beaten by two men last Thursday.
Abdul Rasheed of Lot 8 Sea View Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, suffered a broken arm, injuries to his head and lacerations to the face. He is contending that on the said day, he was on his way to his mother’s home, when he was confronted by one of the men.
According to Rasheed, the man irritated him by speaking slanderous things against him, thus an argument ensued, which led to an altercation. He said that a woman who was standing nearby, summoned the man’s friend to beat him (Rasheed) with a piece of wood.
Rasheed said that the man collected the wood from the woman and started beating him, and that his assailant’s friend joined in.
They then ran into the backdam. He added that he was taken to the hospital by his family and public- spirited citizens.
Rasheed mentioned that he has not received any information from ranks of the Leonora Police Station since he made a report. He said that one of the suspects is being seen around in the neighbourhood.
When Kaieteur News contacted the Leonora Police Station, a police source stated that he was unaware of the matter, but an investigation will be carried out.
