Guyana’s swimmers had an excellent 3rd night on Saturday at the Marlins Invitational Swim Meet in Trinidad. Jessica Stephenson achieved gold in a new all-comers record for the 50m breast. She beat Trinidad’s national 13-14 age group record held by Cherelle Thompson of 35.42 by over half a second with her new personal best time of 34.81. Swimming his first ever 50m breast Niall Roberts managed a great time of 32.49 to achieve 6th in the 15 and over category, while for the girls same event, Noelle Smith touched home in 7th with a time of 40.77.
Athena Gaskin swimming with Jessica swam a 40.85 to finish 5th and her brother Hannibal Gaskin again swam a personal best in the boys event to take 10th place with 40.46 (previous PB was 42.08).
Niall Roberts then took his second silver of the Meet with a 1:01.14 in the 15 and over 100m butterfly whilst in the earlier event for the boys 11-12, Hannibal Gaskin took almost 10 seconds off his PB to swim a 1:16.94 and attain 7th place.
The girls began the evening with the 200m freestyle with Jessica and Athena again in the same heat both attaining PBs – Jessica to touch in 5th with a 2:23.52 and Athena 6th in 2:25.17 and Soroya Simmons finished in 12th after taking 10 seconds off her PB to record a 2:32.31. Soroya was also swam her first 200m back where she finished a very creditable 4th with a 2:50.18
