Police in the interior are probing reports of armed robberies committed on mining camps in the Upper Waini area about two days ago.
Details of the reported incidents are sketchy, but Kaieteur News understands that a team of police ranks headed by an officer has been dispatched to the Big Hope, Upper Waini area to investigate.
There are reports that at least one person was shot during the reported bandits’ raid on the camps.
Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner David Ramnarine told this newspaper that he is in receipt of reports of shots being discharged at mining camps in the area.
“An Officer and some ranks have gone in. I haven’t heard from them as yet, so there is no official confirmation,” Ramnarine told Kaieteur News yesterday.
However, he did reveal that the police have received word that a man who was charged for robbery under arms and the shooting of a man is said to be one of the prime suspects in reported incidents.
Ramnarine said that the man who is out on bail was reportedly positively identified by persons in the area.
