Young Warriors of Cumberland, East Canje and West Canje of Lochaber, West Canje earned the last two semifinal berths after they both won their quarterfinal matches of the New Building Society Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition in Berbice.
Hopetown United and Tamarind Root of Hampshire on the Corentyne are the other two teams already in the Semifinals.
At their home ground, Young Warriors inflicted a 130- run victory over Seawell. Young Warriors won the toss and were soon 15-1. However Berbice Under-15 batsman Shimron Hetmyer (70) and former Berbice Under-19 wicketkeeper batsman Ishwar Singh (65) put on 129 for the 2nd wicket to spearhead them to 279 all out in 37.3 Overs. Simeon Lawson contributed 34 and Anil Beharry 23 as Devendra Sohan took 3-50 and Krishna Harripersaud 2-47.
Seawell lost two early wickets but rallied to 59-2 before slipping to 79- 4. Nirmal Singh (28) and Aslam Ali (36) added 50 for the 5th wicket before former Berbice Under-15 off-spinner Linden Austin engineered a collapse by taking 4-10 as Seawell fell for 149 in 35.2 overs. Shazad Khan took 2-46 for Warriors.
In the other quarterfinal, West Canje defeated Skeldon Community Centre by 47 runs. West Canje made 189 all out in 37 overs as they were aided by 56 extras. Mootoo Sammy top-scored with an unbeaten 38 and Raymond Mohamed made 27. Bowling for Skeldon, Wazir Hussain took 3-33 and Jermain Reid 3-31. Skeldon Community Centre even though benefitting from 37 extras could only respond with 142 all out in 29.3 overs. Hussain made 32 and Junior Blair 23 not out.
Bowling for West Canje, former Berbice Under-19 wicket keeper batsman Riaz Kassim, bowling medium pace took 4-21 while Sunil Sammy took 3-25.
