Sixty children who were hospitalised in the Pediatric Ward at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) were seen smiling and laughing with joy on Sunday, last, as staff from the Gafoors, Houston Complex, paid them a visit and presented gifts to each child.
Administrative Manager of Gafoors, Dionne Foo, said that “every boy and girl in the ward received a gift” and that this was one of the numerous activities of her company to ensure that it “gives back to the public”.
Foo explained that the gifts ranged from toy trucks, Barbie dolls, educational books, story and colouring books, crayons and a snack-pack that included Topco juices.
She stated, “Mr. Gafoor loves kids and really wanted to do something like this”.
The Manager proudly said that Gafoors usually does charitable work at various institutions such as the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, the Palms, Joshua House and also in different communities on a regular basis, not only during the Christmas season.
She added that race, colour or creed plays no role in determining who benefits from presentations or donations referring to her company donating a large number of toys for the Diwali holiday to the Alexander Village Mandir quite recently.
According to Foo, the staff members at the GPHC were very welcoming and assisted her staff during the distribution process.
Ms. Persaud, staff nurse, who was present at yesterday’s activity, told Kaieteur News that she was very grateful for the contribution by Gafoors to the hospital, especially at the Children’s Ward during this season.
She said “Thank you to Gafoors, on behalf of the entire GPHC”.
