Matches in the Kashif and Shanghai Football Tournament will be played at two venues today.
At the Blairmont Community Centre Ground on the West Coast of Berbice, City side Santos will lock horns with New Amsterdam United in opening play from 17:00hrs with the feature game two hours later bringing together the Guyana Defence Force and Rosignol United.
At the GFC Ground in the Capital City, the most successful club in the history of the tournament, Bakewell Topp XX will take on the last team from East Demerara left standing in the competition, Ann’s Grove from 18:00hrs.
This showdown will be followed by what is expected to be a fierce battle with Guyana’s number one Club side Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United strapping up their boots to engage the might of West Demerara, Seawall FC.
When these two sides last faced each other, the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate. Ever since, both sides have been hard at preparations for this game today.
While Alpha will start the game as favourites, Seawall will be no pushovers and fans are in for a wonderful treat.
Alpha will feature the likes of Captain Howard Lowe in defence, Kelvin McKenzie, Ronson Williams in goal, Dwain Jacobs, Shawn Bishop, Dwight Peters, Anthony Abrams, Philbert Moffatt and Gordon Henry among others.
Seawall’s challenge will be led by Ike Garraway, Delon Josiah, goalkeeper Marvin Griffith, Adami Hoyte, Michael Castello, Clement Brown, Toine Lopes, Cleveland Walcott, Nigel Garraway and Adrian Birch.
Ann’s Grove will have to pull out all the stops if they are to come out victors over what is a strong Topp XX line-up on paper.
The East Demerara side has seen fellow East Coast sides Victoria Kings, Buxton United and Bakewell Buxton Stars all knocked out and is the last team standing with the tough task of knocking out the Linden side.
Oswald Duke, Travis Allen (goalkeeper), Levan Adams, Kevon Barry, Anil Hernandez and Ryan Singh are some of the players for Ann’s Grove that will have to step up and represent.
Topp XX’s charge will be led by Carlos Brown in goal, Collie ‘Hitman’ Hercules,
Kayode McKinnon, Cary Harris, Kwesi Johnson, Trenton Banagre, Kennard Simon, Reynold Arthur, Ruel Williams, Ralph Alexander, Fitzroy Chin, Lloyd Gilbert, Eon Sears and Nigel Price.
The last time Rosignol United and the GDF faced each other, the former came out victors and the Army is endeavoring to put the home team away this time around.
Captain Marlon Washington, Warren Gilkes, Eusi Phillips, Delroy Deen, Peter Parks, Telson McKinnon, Ryan Adolph and custodian Akel Clarke will have to play as a unit to overcome the confident home team.
Leading Rosignol will be brothers Delroy and Delwin Fraser, Olvis Mitchell, Justin Collins, Richard Pickett, Cornel Taylor, Garson Baker and the man between the uprights, Ronson Caleb.
Santos is confident of turning back the challenge of New Amsterdam United and to achieve this will be banking on the services of Jermaine Fraser, Glenorvan Edmonds, Gerald Whittington, Shemroy Arthur, O’Neil Heywood, Lennox Charles, Joel Lloyd, Mark Glasgow, Kester Jacobs, Linden Pickett, Kelvin Smith and Mark Glasgow.
New Amsterdam’s challenge will centre around, Delroy Ferdinand, Adrian and Leonard Adams, Colin Bowry, Rondell Hazel, Kelvin and Jamal Joseph, Jermaine August, Elroy Lewis, Jovano Luiz and Dave Johnson.
