Centenarian Millicent Smith-Springer who celebrated her 101 birthday on April 29, last, died on Wednesday of natural causes.
The centenarian, who was a mother of five, with countless grand and great-grandchildren, resided at 203 Agriculture Road, Triumph, East Coast Demerara.
Relatives said that she lived a vegetarian lifestyle and was a devout Christian. During her last days she was cared for by her son, Carlton Smith.
The daughter of the Centenarian, Pearl Smith, told Kaieteur News that she arrived from London, Tuesday, and was traveling along the East Coast Demerara highway on Wednesday when she received a phone call from her brother relating the message of her mother’s passing.
She said her mother was previously ill and had detested visiting doctors, however. “Mommy told my brother that she wanted to go home, but my brother didn’t understand which home she was speaking of. She really wanted to die because she deliberately stopped eating and drinking.”
The body of the centenarian will be interred in Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara.
