Taxi driver LeVar Hutson, 24, of 16 King Street, New Amsterdam and his 17-year-old paramour, a student of New Amsterdam Technical Institute, and of King Street, New Amsterdam, were yesterday remanded by Magistrate Omeyana Hamilton when they appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on a joint charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. The duo pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor Inspector Satrohan Dayaram related to the court that on Wednesday, last, about 15:15 hrs, police ranks were on the Albion Public Road in the vicinity of the police station when they stopped motor car HB 7112.
The defendants, who were travelling in the car, were seen acting in a suspicious manner. The driver was asked to drive into the station. The two occupants, Hutson and the female teenager, were then asked to exit the vehicle, following which they were searched in the station. The car was also searched.
During the process of searching the two defendants, the girl was seen dropping a small parcel on the floor of the room. She reportedly told investigators that it had been given to her by her boyfriend (Hutson), whilst the car was being driven into the station compound; she in turn put it into her pocket. The packet was picked up and weighed. It amounted to 103 grams, and the substance was subsequently determined to be cocaine.
They were arrested and charged.
Their next court date is December 21 at the Albion Magistrate’s Court.
