Eccles women beaten, robbed by gunmen

Two young women on their way home are among the latest victims of armed robbery in the city and its environs.
The women, Samantha Ramroop, 29, a cashier of Neal and Massy Group of Companies and Keisha Goriah, both of CC Eccles, East Bank Demerara, were relieved of their personal belongings by two men who held them at gunpoint around 21:00 hours two nights ago.
The two women had agreed to meet each other at the traffic light at the junction of the Eccles Access Road and the East Bank Highway, to make their way home together.
They were proceeding east along the said public road in the vicinity of Second Street, Eccles, when the suspects who were hiding behind a tree, confronted them, placed the guns to their head and ordered  them to hand over their valuables.
Ramroop initially refused and one of the bandits dealt her a blow to the head with his gun, while the other bandit threw Goriah to the ground, dealt her several kicks about her body and took away their belongings.
The men then escaped in motor car bearing the licence plate PMM 6566, a silver Toyota AT 212, which was parked about 15 yards away from the scene.
The matter was reported to the police and several persons were questioned but no useful information was obtained.
