The Christmas season is here. The Bernice Mansell foundation BMF continues to bring sharing to the fore front of the Christmas holiday. Yesterday the foundation received two containers; one valued US$85,000 and the other, US$78,000 that arrived in Guyana and were discharged at the Demerara Distillers Limited wharf, Lombard Street.
This, according to the president of the organization, is strictly for distribution to the less fortunate.
The container had clothing, shoes, hygiene kits, school kits, newborn kits, wheel chairs, toys and household items.
The items will be shared among East Coast Demerara families through different organizations such as Enterprise Outreach Centre, Guyana Relief Council and to several outlying areas of Guyana.
The items came, courtesy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, headquartered in Utah, United States of America. The church also has a branch in Guyana that is associated with the Bernice Mansell Foundation.
Wayne Barrow, president of the Georgetown branch, said that the funds for purchasing the items come from contributions by the 14 million church members “that care much about the happiness of others.”
He said that if every Guyanese should make a $20 contribution to charity organizations or church, a tangible difference can be made in the lives of people who are desperately in need of basic necessities.
Sister Angus said that she is always happy to be making others happy.
The woman further stated, that the kits, were prepared solely by members of the church she said that they did it in the form of an activity and “it was joyous”.
Bernice Mansell, president of the BMF, said that the primary reason for the containers at this time is to develop homes at the festive season and try to create happiness within children.
She said that although she will feel pleased to distribute all the items before Christmas, it so far, seems as if some will have to be distributed after Christmas.
The Bernice Mansell Foundation has been in existence for 11 years.
