Turfites can gear up for a treat when the Kennard Memorial Turf Club stages a holiday event dubbed ‘Xmas Meet’ but slated for Boxing Day, December 26.
The meet will see some of the nation’s top racehorses in action for a slice of the lucrative monetary prizes at stake.
Jockeys would compete for prizes totaling in excess of $5M with the feature attraction being the B and Lower class race over a distance of 9 furlongs.
The winner of this event carts off one million dollars plus the Mr. and Ms Deo Kharag Memorial trophy while the second place finisher wins half that amount.
The third and fourth places would receive $250, 000 and $125, 000 respectively. This particular race is sponsored for the second consecutive year by the Kharag family of New York.
Eight other races will whet the appetites of horserace lovers including the F and G Class race over 6 furlongs. The winner takes home a handy sum of $250,000 and the second place, one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars. The third and fourth places receive$63,000 and $32,000, respectively.
Several other races will add to the excitement including the Maiden and J and Lower class event over 6 furlongs, the K and L Division over 6 furlongs and the G and Lower Class over 7 furlongs. Activities culminate with the ‘I and Lower Class’ event over 7 furlongs.
In this race the winner carts off$150,000 while the second place receives $75,000. The third and fourth place finishers win $38,000 and $19,000 respectively. Several other exciting races are expected to form a part of the activities for the day.
Among some of the animals that will be on show are Annie’s Playmate, The Message, Marathon Man, Night Crescendo and Miss Republic among others. There will also be some American bred horses that will add to the excitement including Star Tracer and On the Rock.
Meanwhile, horse owners are reminded that all activities would be conducted under the aegis of the Guyana Horse Racing Authorities and there would be strict adherence to the rules.
The owners of horses are required to pay $3,000 per horse at the time of registration. They are also advised to take their animals to be examined by the vet not later than 11:00hrs on race day.
