Christmas is a time for sharing, and that was certainly shown on Tuesday, as the Red Cross Children’s Convalescent Home, located at D’urban Backlands Georgetown, received two hefty contributions from Digicel Guyana and the Roraima Lodge, located on North Road, Georgetown.
Representatives from Digicel and members of the Lodge donated to the convalescence home, hampers, which included pampers, milk and cleaning supplies.
The home was commissioned in the 1978 and was officially opened in 1980. The centre was built with the support of the Georgetown Rotary club, who still continues to play a major role.
The centre is operated by the Red Cross society and it houses children five years and under. Originally, the organisation was structured for malnourished children, who are transferred from the Georgetown Public Hospital, but now children, who are neglected or abandoned are also placed there by the Human Services Ministry.
