Police on West Bank Demerara have detained a man who they suspect was part of a three-man gang that locked a Sisters Village resident in his garage before invading his home and robbing his family on Tuesday night.
One man was nabbed after police received a description of the perpetrators. This newspaper understands that the men, who were armed with a gun, cutlass and a knife, attacked Alexander Ramdhani, a 46-year-old businessman of 32 Sisters Village and relieved him of two cell phones, cash and other articles.
According to reports, Ramdhani, who shares the house with his wife, son and brother, Errol, had returned home with his motor car when he saw the three men sitting on his bridge.
He drove his car into his yard and the men followed him and during an attack they took away the articles and cash which he had on his person.
The men then tied him up and left him in the garage before proceeding into his house where they confronted the rest of the family.
The men demanded that they hand over all cash and jewellery, but the family refused causing one of the men who was armed with the gun to strike the businessman’s brother in the head.
The men then ransacked a bedroom and found $16,000, which they took before making good their escape. Errol Ramdhani was taken to the Woodlands Hospital where he was admitted.
And on West Coast Demerara the police are probing another armed robbery which occurred about 21:00 hours the same night at Windsor Forest.
During that robbery Premchand Basdeo, his wife Mohanieram and sister, Kussilla Ramdial, were attacked by three men, all armed with handguns.
According to reports Ramdial went to an outside toilet where she was confronted by the armed men who held her up and took her back into Basdeo’s house.
They relieved Basdeo and his wife of US$711, two cell phones and a quantity of gold jewellery.
One of the bandits took Kussilla to her house which is on the same premises and took away two cell phones and $168,000 before escaping. No one has been arrested.
