Who in their right mind would attempt to steal a motorcycle from a police station? Well, two men pulled off such a heist but thanks to surveillance cameras around the Ruimveldt Police Station, they are now behind bars awaiting charges.
Kaieteur News understands that on Saturday the police pulled in the motorcycle after the rider had committed a traffic violation.
But the rider was not too keen on having the bike sit at the Ruimveldt Police Station for too long since he had a delivery contract with a city fast food joint.
So he arranged for another man to remove the bike from the station where it was lodged.
The man however did not know that the station compound was covered by surveillance cameras and off he went with the bike on Sunday, thinking that he was scot free.
Early Monday morning, the rank, who had impounded the motorcycle, missed it and made several enquiries about its whereabouts from his colleagues.
When no one could give an account for the motorcycle, investigators turned to the recordings from the surveillance cameras.
Sure enough they saw a man removing the motorcycle and were able to positively identify him as a man who had previous brushes with the law.
He was quickly located and he told the police that he was paid by the owner of the motorcycle to remove it from the station.
Police also located the owner who is now in custody.
