Bandits in Berbice resumed their activities early yesterday morning after a brief lull with the attack on a Gangaram, East Canje household, during which they discharged several rounds from their weapons to ward any attempt to thwart them.
The bandits, two of whom were masked, commenced their attack around 01:15 hours by smashing several louvre windows to gain entry into the home occupied by Shabana Khan, Bharrat Puran called Alvin, 77-year-old Gladys Khan and Farzana Karim, a 12-year-old student.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that after smashing the windows, three bandits, one armed with a shotgun, another with a small “shine gun” and another with a chopper entered the premises where they terrorised the occupants who were already aroused by the breaking glass.
The bandit with the shotgun discharged a round, which struck the roof before they began relieving their victims of their valuables.
Shabana Khan was robbed of five gold rings and one gold bangle; Bharrat Puran was relieved of a gold chain and a gold bangle; Gladys Khan had her two gold rings, a pair of gold bangles and two gold chains taken away, while Farzana Karim was robbed of her gold bangle and a pair of silver earrings.
As the men were leaving they discharged another round in the yard before disappearing.
