Banks, Republic Bank & Digicel on board; over 77 horses entered
All systems are in place for The Port Mourant Turf Club Pre Christmas one-day Horse Race Meet scheduled for this Sunday at the Club’s track Port Mourant Corentyne. Over 77 of the country’s top animals have been entered for what promises to be one the biggest race meets staged by the club in a long time.
Seven races are carded for the day with close to $4M in cash and trophies up for grabs. Pacesetters, Banks DIH Limited, Republic Bank and Digicel are among the leading sponsors for the meet.
As Usual Banks DIH is sponsoring the feature B class event with a dazzling $500,000 and the Banks DIH trophy up for grabs over 1300M. Among the entries are Night Crescendo, Tropical Passion, On the Rock with Salt, Star Tracer, Prince Charming and Marathon Man.
Top animals Sabrina’s Princess, Peaceful and Celebration Time, Got to go and Fairy Landing headlines the entries for the co-feature event for three-year-old horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies. This event is has a first prize of $400,000 over a 1700M distance.
Better than Gold will be looking to go one better as it renews rivalry with opponents in the two-year-old event for Guyana and West Indian horses over 1200M. Among those also looking to claim the $300,000 first prize are Money up Front, Irish Girl, Super Cat and Pay day.
Republic Bank sponsors the D and lower 1000M sprint and offers up a winning take of $300,000 and trophy. A high class Field that includes Top of The Line, Gullium, the Gap, Laura Lee in Flight, Bwana Dancer and Delmur Gold will be in the hunt for glory.
A royal line has been assembled for the F class event with Sir Balajee, Romantic Passion, Lady of my Dreams, Momzelee, South Sea, Pegasus Rising, Gabrielle Gold and Pixie Fire expected to burn up the track in their quest for the $240,000 first prize over 1400M.
The ‘I’ Class 1300M battle has a full complement of horses with the winner set to run away with $150,000.
Cell Phone Giants Digicel takes charge of the maiden and J class 1000M gallop. The winner with take home $120,000and the Digicel trophy.
There will be trophies and other prizes for the top individual performers including champion jockey, stable and trainer compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall Bourda market.
The venue has one of the leading tracks in the country and the Pre Christmas crowd is usually a bumper one and the organisers have all reasons to believe that this time the crowd will be bigger.
And with the facilities having undergone massive rehabilitation work it will be ready for the anticipated jolly time that will be had. The event is being run under the rules of the Guyana Horse racing Authority. Race time is 13:00hrs. (Samuel Whyte)
