– Easily wins Women’s U-21 Title

United States of America-based national table tennis player, Trenace Lowe emphatically announced her arrival in Guyana for the National Championships when she played unbeaten to win the Women’s U-21 title at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall last night.
Lowe started her campaign in round two of the round-robin competition with an 11-5, 11-5 and 11-7 rout of Adielle Rosheuvel then went on to beat the holder of eight titles in 2010 competition Chelsea Edghill 11-6, 9-11, 11-6 and 11-4 in round three.
Lowe defeated US-based Saskia Chung 11-6, 11-3 and 11-4 in round four before securing the Women’s U-21 title 10-12, 11-9, 11-8 and 11-7 in the round five against second place finisher, Natalie Cummings. Edghill placed third in the contest.
In the first round, Cummings defeated Chung 12-14, 11-3, 9-11, 11-1 and 11-7 in a five set thriller to advance ahead. Edghill then defeated Chung 11-8, 11-2 and 11-4 in round two before Chung suffered a 5-11, 13-15 and 5-11 whipping against Rosheuvel.
Cummings also defeated Edghill 8-11, 11-6, 11-8 and 11-7 in round four of the competition before beating Rosheuvel 11-5, 11-4 and 11-9 in the final round to establish the placements of the top three in the National Championships.
Up to press time last night, the Men’s U-21 had only reached the final eight while competition in the Senior Mixed Doubles had commenced.
The competition continues tomorrow and is expected to run through Sunday (tomorrow) with the Closing Ceremony.
