– As Men’s Singles champ goes for three in a row
By Edison Jefford
Current National Men’s Table Tennis Singles Champion, Godfrey Munroe believes fitness will be his biggest problem when he launches his title defence at the National Senior Championships tomorrow at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Munroe won the title in 2000 when he ended one of the most successful Guyanese table tennis players, Sydney Christophe reign, then returned in 2008 after the event had an eight-year hiatus to outclass his rivals in a triumphant title defence.
The highly-rated Munroe will be out to make it three in a row when the ‘big boys and girls’ clash this weekend in what is expected to be one of the most competitive Senior Championships as the event establishes the Guyana Table Tennis Association calendar.

because of rain, Tamarind Root won the toss, took first strike and after getting a start of 97 runs from Alvin Ramdass (57) and Altaf Mohamed (38) and contributions of 26 from Lionel Seegobin and 21 N.O from Vijai Sukra, they posted a challenging 232 all out in 34 Overs. Bowling for No. 71, Nazim Mohamed took 3 for 27, Deomangal Deodhari 2 for 24, Mark Lionel 2 for 39 and Deoprakash Ramdat 2 for 44.
When No. 71 replied, they gave good chase with Deoprakash Ramdat slamming 62 (7 fours and 1 six), Nazim Mohamed 44 and Karmeshwar Ramjit 33 but with no other batsman getting past 6, they could only reach 192 all out in 31.4 Overs. Bowling for Tamarind root Dilip Ramgasammy took 3 for 30, Alvin Ramdass 2 for 34 and Satesh Dwarka 2 for 44.
