By Franklin Wilson
Internationally renowned jewelers, Guyana’s own, Kings Jewellery World, has created another first with the production honorary rings that will be presented to two of Guyana’s outstanding footballers of the recent past, Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard and Collie ‘Hitman’ Hercules.
Yesterday at their Quamina Street headquarters, Managing Director Ralph Persaud took the opportunity to unveil the rings to the media in the presence of Co-Directors of the Kashif & Shanghai Organisation, Kashif Muhammad and Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major.
Both players will be recognised for their outstanding contributions to their respective local clubs, Guyana and football in general during the feature game at the opening of the 21st Kashif & Shanghai tournament – Guyana All Stars vs Atletico Roraima of Brazil.
In handing over the rings, Persaud was quick to point out that this was not the first time they {Kings Jewellery World}have been supporting the Kashif & Shanghai tournament, noting that they have been with the tournament every year.
“We actually been there from the beginning and we have been honoring the most valuable players for most of the time. Since there was an appreciation award we wanted to show what our company can make.”
The managing director explained that Kings Jewellery World is the only company in Guyana and probably the Caribbean that can make pieces with such detail. He said that since it will be given to players who have given yeomen service to Guyana for so many years, they wanted to give them something really special.
Persaud gave details about the composition of the ring: “We used their logo and style and basically it was our designers who came up with the concept of transforming it into a ring. We are hoping that it will eventually become a trademark in this sport.”
Muhammad responded: “We’re extremely thankful to Kings Jewellery. They have been supporting us over the years. I’ve known Mr. Looknauth Persaud for many years before the tournament started. We were happy that when we came they decided to give something that’s going to be a good token for the players and we are much, much more than satisfied to see what these two youngsters are going to receive. It’s really valuable and it’s deserving for the guys.”
