Game in honour of former Captain Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard and Collie ‘Hitman’ Hercules
Five Trinidad and Tobago based players have been named in a 20-man squad announced as the Guyana All Stars who will face Brazil’s Atletico of Roraima State in the feature game of on the opening night of the 21st edition of the annual Kashif & Shanghai Football Extravaganza at the National Stadium, Providence.
Headlining the T&T based Pro League players is former National Captain Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard who will return on Saturday along with midfielders Kayode McKinnon, Carey Harris, Walter Moore and forward Randolph ‘Blackhead’ Jerome.
Sunday’s game is also being held in honour of Central defender Pollard and Forward Collie ‘Hitman’ Hercules who together have served Guyana’s football with distinction for many years.
While Pollard is still playing at the competitive level, Hercules has ventured into the realms of coaching and is the present Assistant Coach of the Golden Jaguars.
Hercules will be a player/coach in Sunday’s game which is expected to attract thousands of spectators, fans and supporters who will not want to miss seeing the two football heroes in tandem for possibly the final time.
The goalkeepers named are Guyana’s number one Ronson Williams and Derrick Carter. Current Captain Howard Lowe, who enjoyed many games at the International and Club levels with Pollard – being referred to as the Twin Towers – will lead the team in Sunday’s match.
Dwain Jacobs, Philbert Moffatt, Warren Gilkes, Dwight Peters, Devon Millington, Dwayne Ali, Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson, Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant, Nigel ‘Powers’ Codrington, Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams, Kester Jacobs and Clive Nobrega are the other players named in the squad.
Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover will be in charge of the Technical Department as Head Coach, assisted by Collie Hercules and Gavin Browne (Goalkeeper). Rawle Adams has been appointed Manager.
The T&T based players will arrive in Guyana on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s match up. The Brazilian based Atletico will arrive in Guyana on Thursday evening.
The 21-man Atletico Roraima squad reads: Cristiano Rodrigo Besuska, Thales Bruno Ribeiro De Souza, Cláudio Germano Silva E Lima, Nailson Holanda, Clayton Robson De Lima, Gidelson Tabosa, Wagner De Souza, Luiz Paulo De Lima Castro, Dennis Paixão Da Silva, Hugo Rayká Valente Paiva, Kleythonn Ribeiro Lima De Sena, Kayo Fernando Lima De Souza, Fernando Araújo Souza, Marcos Raylson Pinheiro De Carvalho, Samid Teixeira De Lemos, Tiago Carlos Brito, Heitor Gomes Neto, Evandro Maxima Da Rocha Costa, Robemar Da Costa Gois, Eduardo Costa Lima, Welligton Rodrigues Da Silva.
