Experienced volleyball administrator, Gregory Rambarran, was unanimously elected President of the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) after elections which were held on November 21 in Berbice.
The clubs met recently to resuscitate the BVA which was dormant for several years.
According to a press release from the association dated December 4, Rambarran is a part- owner of DTV Channel 8 in Berbice and has a wealth of experience in volleyball administration having been involved in the sport since the early 70’s.
He also served as a coach, secretary of the BVA, President of BVA, Vice- President of the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) and Media & Marketing Coordinator of the GVF for a number of years.
The former Physical Education teacher has promised to work with the new executive of the BVA to return Berbice volleyball to the pinnacle it once stood at and to raise the bar even higher.
The newly elected president emphasizes that the game must be reintroduced to all schools across Berbice and both males and females must be encouraged to participate and adopt the sport as part of a healthy lifestyle, stressing that it is a fairly inexpensive sport.
Others selected to serve on the BVA executive are: Vice President- Levi Nedd (Current National Senior Coach), Secretary- Zaheer Moakan (P.E. Teacher at Berbice High School), Asst. Sec./Treasurer- Leon Butcher (Businessman), PRO- Parabtan Mangar (former National Player), Committee Members- Sham Singh, Krishna Mohabir, Eshwarchand Budhai, Eli Hazel, Suknauth Utam, Shanomay Trotman and Halima Azeez.
The association is in the process of formulating plans for the development of the sport and fine tuning its calendar of activities for 2011-2012 and will launch its 2011 season during the second week of January 2011, the release stated.
