Dear Editor,
I read with astonishment your headline in Kaieteur News of Monday December 6, 2010 “Cathy Hughes’ affiliation with Synergy Holdings no conflict of interest” and wish to inform you of the inaccuracy of the statement.
For your information, I have no affiliation with Synergy Holdings Inc. and neither does my company, Videomega Productions.
The fact that your newspaper has misconstrued Mr. Motilall granting me an opportunity to interview him some two months ago as an “affiliation” with Synergy Holdings is unacceptable. Please be informed that as a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Mona in Mass Communications and Social Sciences “interviewing” in its range of forms is the foundation of my profession.
I am equally amused by that well-worn journalistic justification for publication which stated “Efforts to contact Hughes yesterday (Sunday) for a comment proved futile”.
As a regular client of your newspaper’s advertising services, my cell phone number has always been available to your colleagues, none of whom tried to make contact with me yesterday (Sunday).
I do feel that the point should be made that my company is separate from me and my political activism and provides a professional service; regardless if the client is the Government of Guyana, NGOs, businesses or private citizens.
My company’s right to be retained and to earn should not be interfered with as long as it is done according to the Laws of Guyana.
I do believe we have much in common and given your personal commitment to the promotion of “truth” and “accuracy” and an informed public I am certain you will place a retraction and apology in an equally visible location in your newspaper.
Cathy Hughes
