The failure of the Potaro Road feeder breaker which occurred on Sunday around 04:30h, which resulted in power failure, was repaired and power was subsequently restored at Bartica at around 18:00 hours.
A release from the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Incorporated stated that the damage to the circuit breaker and control and DC supply circuits were minimal.
However, personnel from GPL’s Engineering Services Unit are still at the location and are working towards replacing the DC and control circuits after which power was to be restored at 17:00h yesterday.
The release also stated that typically, whenever there is a failure, the insulating materials burn slowly but, the breaker has to be extracted from the cubicle before any firefighting effort can be effective.
The power company wishes to advise Bartica consumers that steps will be put in place to prevent a recurrence of this incident.
