Despite it rained nearly all day on Sunday, the General Marine nationwide Softball competitions started at 10:30am. Despite a soggy outfield and water all around the boundary at the GCC Ground, Bourda, there were spectators in the Rohan Kanhai, Ken Wishart stands and the GCC pavilion was packed with all five matches scheduled being contested.
Live commentary by Inderjeet Persaud, Rovindra Mandolall and John Ramsingh at the ground added to the atmosphere and in the end Floodlights, Trophy Stall Angels and Better Hope Warriors emerged champions in the respective categories.
The female finals between Trophy Stall Angels and Wellwoman will be shown on television at a later date.
Results of finals:
Final # 1 Male Over-40
Floodlights defeated Savage by 24 runs. Floodlights batted first scored 107 for 7 off their allotted 15 overs. Toolsie Sahadeo top scored with 33 and Richard Persaud 20. Nadir Baksh took 2 for 10 bowling for Savage. Savage in reply scored 83 for 3 off their 15 overs. Wallack Joseph top scored with 25, Falim Mohammed 23 and Nadir Baksh 22 not out. Wayne Jones and Ricky Deonarain took one wicket each bowling for Floodlights. Toolise Sahadeo was named man of the match.
Final # 2 Male Open
Better Hope Warriors defeated Rockaway by 15 runs. Better Hope Warriors scored 112 for 4 off 15 overs. Navin Singh continued his excellent form with 54 not out and was supported by Chien Gittens 16. Bowling for Rockaway, Sackichan Jagdeo took 2 for 22. Rockaway in reply made 97 for 7 off their 15 overs. Krishna Deosaran top scored with 36 and Rushie Samaroo 28.
Bowling for Better Hope Warriors, Richard Latiff took 3 for 14 and Balram Roopnarine took 2 for 24. Navin Singh received the man of the match award.
Final # 3 Female Open
Trophy Stall Angels defeated Wellwoman by 14 runs. Trophy Stall Angels batted scored 45 for 5 off their 10 overs. June Thomas top scored with 11. Bowling for Wellwoman, Zaheeda Sandally, Nickola Leacock and Haseena Mohamed took one wicket each. Wellwoman were restricted to 31 all out off 9 overs. Haseena Mohammed top scored with 11. Bowling for Trophy Stall Angels, Nalini Sumintra took 2 wickets for 3 runs. Haseena Mohammed received the player of the match award despite being on the loosing side.

Semifinal # 1
Trophy Stall Angels defeated 4R Lioness by 4 runs. Trophy Stall Angels batted first scored 65 for 5 off their allotted 10 overs. Reneka Awad top scored with 16 and Nalini Sumintra supported with 15. Bowling 4R Lioness, Tracy Glassgow and Gangadai Singh took 1 wicket each. 4R Lioness in reply scored 61 for 8 off 10 overs. Nalini Sumintra took 1 wicket for 4 runs.
Semifinal # 2
Wellwoman defeated Corriverton Queens by 6 wickets. Corriverton Queens batted first made 41 for 6 off 10 overs. K. Mentore top scored with 10. Bowling for Wellwoman, Shinead Emerson, Renieka Isaacs and Haseena Mohamed took 1 wicket each. Wellwoman in reply scored 42 for 4 off 7 overs. Victoria Bacchus top scored with 14 and Renika Isaacs made 10.
Player of the Tournament in the Over-40 male category was Hakeem Majeed of Success Masters for making three consecutive centuries. He received a Plaque and $5,000.
Female Player of the Tournament was Gangadai Singh of 4R Lioness for her all round performance that included taking a helmet-trick. She received a Plaque and $5,000.
Player of the Tournament in the Male Open category was Navin Singh of Better Hope Warriors.
All the winning teams received trophies and $50,000 each. Runner-Ups received trophies and $25,000 each.
Players of the match in the finals received trophies and $5,000 each.
The General Marine sponsored competitions started on September 12, 2010 and finished last Sunday December 5. Three different competitions were run simultaneously, the Male Over 40, Female and Male Open, finishing in less than three months.
The Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association has concluded its year activity and would like to thank all the teams that have participated and wish them a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year.
The GFSCA would also like to congratulate Mr. Ramesh Sunich for now owning the Male and Female 10/10 champion teams of Guyana. Next year January 23 the Male Over-40, Female and Male Open “STAG BEER AND EL DORADO RUM” Softball Competitions will begin.
From March 4, 5 and 6 the GFSCA will send two teams to USA to participate in the Florida Cup 2011.
